At the end of the general meeting, this sentence suddenly came up:
“And our next general meeting won’t be held here at the office.”
For a few seconds, the room fell very quiet, followed by questioning glances and initial speculation about what might be coming next. An offsite? A field trip? A new office?
Nils finally solved the riddle with a broad grin:
“It’s going to take place in Mallorca!”
The silence suddenly gave way to loud laughter, cheers, and pure excitement. And after several weeks of planning, preparation, and anticipation, our team finally set off southward from Münster/Osnabrück Airport on Friday, April 24.
Once we arrived on the island, we headed straight to Ses Salines. It’s a quiet, charming town about 45 minutes south of Palma and far from the hustle and bustle of Ballermann.
The first highlight was waiting for us as soon as we arrived: a beautiful hotel with a gorgeous pool, lots of greenery, trees laden with lemons, and plenty of cozy spots to relax. No one wanted to miss out on that. And even before the official program had even started, the lounge chairs around the pool were already being put through their paces.
After lunch under the palm trees, the general meeting got underway. Together, we reviewed the events of the past few months, discussed upcoming projects and the further development of MODELYZR, and talked about our goals and visions.
We then spent the first evening together over dinner and drinks in Ses Salines, enjoying conversations and stories that had nothing to do with our day-to-day work.
On Saturday morning, a joint workshop provided an opportunity to take a closer look at our collaboration and internal processes and to discuss how and in what areas we would like to continue developing together.
With our heads full of ideas and tasks, we then headed to Palma to unwind—right into the heart of the lively city center. Now it wasn’t just our brains but also our feet that were put to the test: Divided into teams, we competed against each other in a scavenger hunt. In addition to fun challenges, this gave everyone some exciting and educational insights into the city and the island’s history. After racking up not only points but also plenty of steps, the next highlight was already waiting for us: a traditional Mallorcan cooking class.
Together, we chopped, cooked, and, of course, tasted the food. It was the perfect opportunity to look back on the last two days in a relaxed atmosphere and to present the winners of the scavenger hunt with their well-deserved (albeit narrowly won) trophy.
For our party-loving team members, however, this was just the start of a long night. And so, a few of them took the opportunity to explore the island’s nightlife. All we’ll say is, “What happens in Palma, stays in Palma.”
More or less well-rested, but always in high spirits and fortified by a hearty breakfast, Sunday finally gave everyone another chance to explore the island—and especially Palma—on their own, while also soaking up some sun, before heading back to the still-quite-cool Münsterland region that evening.
In the end, everyone agreed: Mallorca is definitely worth a visit—and I’m sure no one would object to holding an annual meeting there 😉.
