For the fourth time, or MODELYZR’s fourth anniversary, we celebrated Modelyzr’s birthday as a Christmas party.
This was celebrated from the very beginning and has now traditionally been continued for the fourth time, as the founding of MODELYZR GmbH dates back to November 27, 2015 – close to Christmas – and this is the reason for at least twice as much fun every year. 😊
Nils had once again come up with something very special this year. A successful mixture of company-relevant facts and figures, a “science slam”, good food and, of course, not forgetting the subsequent exchange of ideas with the appendants alongside a drink or two ….
15:00-18:00 “State of the Nation” meeting
The initial meeting took place in our office at the location in

in Willich, once again visiting the beautiful Münster. As in every quarter
The most important internal figures, data and facts were first
discussed. An outlook for the coming months is also included. How
This has always been very exciting for all of us, as the figures are a reflection of our

another reason to toast, which on this evening was yet another
or other times should happen … 😉
After discussing all the important facts and looking ahead to the coming months, we headed to the nearby restaurant Herr Sonnenschein in a joyful mood. You could almost say it was diagonally opposite our neighbor, where Taha (the owner) had prepared the entire back room for us. There were already champagne glasses filled with sparkling wine and, for some, beer, ready for the first toast.
By the time the first glasses had been emptied, all the speakers for our little “science slam” on the topic of environmental (pollution) had already arrived and were ready to give their presentations.
1st speaker: Dr. Thomas Bartoscheck
Thomas Bartoschek is a research assistant at the Institute of Geoinformatics at the University of Münster, where he is also the founder and head of the student and research laboratory. He gave a talk on the exciting topic of senseBox. The senseBox is an electronic kit for schools and educational institutions to measure various environmental phenomena such as temperature, humidity, air pressure, UV radiation, volume… an answer to many environmental questions!
A very complex and interesting topic that got us all hooked right at the start of the “Science Slam”.
2nd speaker: Max-Fabian Volhard
Max-Fabian Volhard provided us with detailed and also frightening information on the subject of plastics. He studied chemical engineering combined with chemical theory and application practice and subsequently completed his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a grade of 1.2. If that didn’t already impress you, after his presentation at the latest there was a fascinating and at the same time, due to the subject matter, oppressive silence. We were not only informed about the different types of plastic, but also about their decomposition time and the associated processes. Not forgetting the resulting developments and problems that Generation Z is confronted with at the latest and that need to be addressed in order to shape a more sustainable future together.
3rd speaker: Madeleine Hübner
The presentation by Madeleine Hübner, Master of Education – Biology/Geography, followed on from the previous topic with a talk on microplastics.
It was very much about the ways in which they spread, but also about our options for action. The examples referred a lot to the sewage fields right next to us in Münster, so that the topic seemed much closer and more frightening. At the same time, however, it was also a lecture that made a lasting impression, as we were also shown our own options for action, which made the topic very tangible for all of us and motivated each of us. Because theory is one thing, but to really make a difference we have to act.
This realization was very much in the spirit of the “Science Slam” initiated by Nils.
4th speaker: Lydia Möcklinghoff
Lydia Möcklinghoff’s presentation was the latest to lighten the mood, as the zoologist – or more precisely, anteater researcher – was able to talk about her exciting research in the Brazilian outback and various species conservation projects around the world with a great deal of charm and humor. There was a lot of laughter and the actual topic was not overlooked.
5. speaker: Dr. Falk Niehörster
With Falk Niehörster, mathematician and leading expert on climate risks, disaster modeling and risk management, we were offered a crowning conclusion to the “Sciens Slam” by an impressive personality. The wide-ranging topic of emerging marine risks and how to help make industry, the global economy and society more resilient and responsive to the consequences of a rapidly changing ocean aroused great curiosity in us, which could hardly be quenched in the short time available. Only hunger kept us from confronting Falk Niehörster with further questions…
But we should still have enough time for this in the further course of the evening, in a joint exchange with all speakers, colleagues and associated partners.
In line with the good, very interesting and at the same time serious topics, which have provided a lot of need for discussion and thoughtfulness, the schedule, one might hardly think, shifted significantly backwards.
But in keeping with the motto young, dynamic, innovative, MODELYZR improvised and simply served the food between the presentations without further ado. As all the food was prepared in mason jars (and very meat-reduced in line with the prevailing theme), everyone was still able to chat with each other while standing. This meant that nothing stood in the way of a relaxed atmosphere during the presentations.
By the time the main course was served, all the presentations had finished, which led to a convivial exchange, now also with the respective partners of the employees and speakers, and the atmosphere was now completely relaxed.
Now we laughed a lot again, played Jenga, listened to music, talked and well …. of course also tasted one or two beers. 😉
Since the after-work beer still tastes best, it was not uncommon for some of us to go back to the office and enjoy a few more beers until the early hours of the morning to round off a successful evening…
